Places For The Family To Visit:

The Oregon Trail Interpretive Center is located just 5 minutes North of Baker City along Hwy I-86 the "Richland Out-Back Road Race" course used as an alternate to the usual and reknowned Elkhorn courses. The center offers detailed information of the Oregon Trail and it's history along with a scenic viewpoint where visitors and still see the ruts of the wagon trains that traveled along the valley floor as it passed through Baker City. Sumpter Oregon Gold Mine Valley is located only 30 minutes South of Baker City on Hwy 7 along the Elkhorn Classic's Stage-4 "Dooley Mountain Road Race" course. Sumpter is the site of a historic gold mining operation that used a shallow dredge in a perpetually moving pond to dig a path in front of it while dropping sifted ground behind in its continual search for gold. The dredge can still be seen with a small town and museum to visit.
