
The Oregon Trail Interpretive Center is located just 5 minutes North of Baker City along Hwy I-86 the "Richland Out-Back Road Race" course
used as an alternate to the usual and reknowned Elkhorn courses.
The center offers detailed information of the Oregon Trail and it's history along with a scenic viewpoint where visitors and still see the ruts
of the wagon trains that traveled along the valley floor as it passed through Baker City. A chapter in homesteaders of Oregon's beginning.

Sumpter Oregon Gold Mine Valley is located only 30 minutes South of Baker City on Hwy 7 along the Elkhorn Classic's Stage-4 "Dooley Mountain Road Race"
course.
Sumpter is the site of a historic gold mining operation that used a shallow dredge in a perpetually moving pond to dig a path in front of it while dropping
sifted ground behind in its continual search for gold. The dredge can still be seen with a small town and museum to visit.
